Discussing Delicious: Emily's Taste of Truth

I've played the hour demo, and I like it as much as Mystery Mansion or Cooking and Romance.  Certainly not as much as the classic Emily games, of course, but enough that I will probably buy it and finish it.

It seems straightforward enough, and Carl the Mouse seems easy enough to find, so at this point in the game I'm not seeing the need of a walkthrough.

What do those of you that have played more of the game think?  Does it get challenging enough to need a walkthrough or mouse location screenshots?

What do you guys think of the game so far?

Edit: I played the first two restaurants and a few levels of the third.  I like the game okay, but I don't know if I like it enough to buy it and/or play it all the way through.  (I had two free days of FunPass to try the game.)  My problem with it is, as always with the new games, the mini games break up the flow of the time management and I don't find them fun.  

Final Thoughts: After completing the game, I can say that I did like it.  I didn't love it, but it was mostly fun.  I enjoyed the last three restaurants much better than the first three, so if you're in doubt, it does get better.

I played the demo and bought it right away, but after a four restaurants, I'm disappointed.  The gameplay is good, despite the mini-games, but the restaurants are identical.  There is no variation for how food is made between restaurants.  Each has two smoothies, each has two baked goods, two foods on the stove, two drinks . . .  There is no variety with the way food is cooked between restaurants either, so that it becomes boring after a bit.  Also, the lack of a storyline was a disappointment as well.  If this were my first Emily game, I'd probably rate it higher, but having been playing them since 2007 (Delicious 2), I expected more charm, challenge, and fun.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: After six restaurants, I found it too dull to continue and have uninstalled it and am playing Emily's Wonder Wedding instead.

When this game was originally released, I played the first restaurant, and half of the second, and quit.  I couldn't get past the cringe-worthy slang by Paige and her friends, quite frankly I didn't like seeing the kids so grown up so quickly, and I found the story to be a bore.  I recently decided to give it another try, and -- once I ignored the plot -- I mostly enjoyed the gameplay.  It's pretty straightforward, so I don't feel it needs a full walkthrough, but I thought I'd post the locations of Carl the Mouse and any tips or screenshots that might also be useful.

First Thoughts on Delicious: Emily's Mansion Mystery

 I'm still playing the demo, and have only gotten up to the intro of the mini games.  I'm going to play to the end of the demo before I decide to buy or not.  Like the last one, it's so nice to have the old-style play back.  I'm still undecided as to how intrusive the mini games are, though.  The graphics are great, as always, and I do love that they have kept the same basic music/sounds since the early days.  The storyline is still fun thus far, too.  I'd love to hear what you guys think!

Update: Finished it and really enjoyed it!

Not a Walkthrough, Just a Review: Delicious: Emily's Cooking and Romance

I've been asked if I would be writing a walkthrough of Delicious: Emily's Cooking and Romance, like I have for all the other Emily games.  I had assumed I would, but as of right now, I won't be.

I've been playing the Delicious games since the beginning, before there was a storyline. At first I was totally in love with this game, especially as the game-interrupting mini-games were not a requirement to win the level. (Gosh how I hate those mini-games!) As the levels progressed, the story stopped holding my attention, the slang by the kids became unbearable, and the gameplay became stale. There has never been an Emily game that I did not finish, but I stopped after the third restaurant and forgot all about it until today.

Edit: While I'm not crazy about it (and maybe I'd be less hard on it if it weren't a Delicious game), I might go back and finish it later.  Who knows!

Another edit, June 2024:  I decided to give it another try, ignoring the story, to see if I liked it better.  The Napoli restaurant is still a bit of a bore, but I'm enjoying the later locations much better.  So, while it's not a perfect game, I'd give it 3.5 stars now.

April 2023: GameHouse has announced that they are working on a new Delicious game!  Let's hope it will be a good one!

I know this blog seems inactive, but the truth is that there have been no decent time management games in some time. (At least none that are interesting enough to pull me away from other games.)  I still check comments and try to help when I can, so don't hesitate to ask.
